It is said and done that women are very much weak and cannot take good steps for themselves. But do we realize how and why is it really run so long?
The biggest set back is that we don’t tell women to support each other like we would if it was any unbiased society.
Women go after women who are either their age or their competition in any field that you see has them to work together. It is very rare that a group of women will support the other’s decision.
So, now that we know what one of the biggest point is let’s move on to further information.
Women face many issues everywhere, from domestic violence to the bad office politics and from raising kids to working for their peace of mind.
Even if any one place is helping in being peaceful will work wonders on the minds and productivity of the women and lead them happy lives (at least at one end).
The harassment at the workplace only makes it difficult to work as the mood, the aura, the vibes, the mental ability to think of new and better ideas is hindered by such bad thoughts of what has happened or what will be the next thing of harassment to face.
There is a South African public sector that gives woman leave for 15 days as and when they experience domestic violence.
There are guidelines to provide the women with the safety they need. Guidelines that the men have dos and don’ts to follow to give a good work environment to the women or they have to face some legal action. But do those guidelines work?
The problem is not the behavior of the men but of women who are so jealous hearted and instead of teaching their sons to respect women and to encourage them, women tend to love playing being the victim.
They get so used to the fact that they are not allowed certain things that the practice gets into their system to be obedient to the men or the society just because they are physically weaker.
Tolerance of sexual harassment can lead to the most horrific violence. Sometimes women are targeted because of pregnancy.
The women who are seen as easy targets are the one who are mostly single mothers, young, less qualified, or outsourced.
A survey by Indian National Bar Association tells that out of 6047 participants both male and female 38% said that they have faced sexual harassment at workplace.
The policies that the companies have are rarely used by the women. They fear the stigma for their whole life. The ones who actually take a step are either threatened or hurt or face long legal procedures, the first ones to tell them to back off are the police officers.
In 2002, Phaneesh Murthi, a director with Infosys had to leave his job due to allegations by his executive secretary. He reached for out of court settlement and paid 3 million dollars. At his next job at iGate he was again accused of sexual harassment. He had been sued by a junior employee whom he had alleged relationship with. He was removed as the CEO and president of the company but no instances of him doing a sexual assault were found.
This is just one case that I wrote about. But can you believe that every five minutes a rape happens. Every two and a half minutes a sexual assault happens. And worldwide 50% sexual assaults are against girls under the age of 16 years. First sexual experience of 30% women was forced. Between 40% and 50% of the women in European Union countries experience unwanted sexual advances, physical contact or other form of sexual assault at workplace.
My part is to warn, aware and let people know that this hate is of no use. The work should be done with the intention to get better not bitter. Workplace politics might be a thing but workplace crime should not be. See yourself in the places of the women who have faced it. What if you were the one seeking justice? So it is better to speak and shatter the crime doer than to feel intimidated by them. This is not for the women to read and pass on the information like nothing happened or like you read another article but it is also for all the men out there to teach their fellow male friends or as I would say their breed to behave. They really need to have a change of mindset. You can enjoy, no one is stopping you. But I would say what if a man assaulted a man and you cannot tell or scream and feel so exasperated that you cannot let it out and are not allowed to cry. I want to show you what it feels like not stop but just try to show how harsh the reality is. What if after the assault of a male by a male all women refuse to marry you? Would you still feel it is right to assault women? What if men were treated like untouchables and disgrace for families after that assault? What if your only hope for living a good life was your workplace because you hoped for better income and lesser family drama there and all you men get is to be assaulted by other men, ending your careers and at some point your soul to be ripped off. I wonder if then you men would stop? If only this was a parallel world, but it isn’t, and hence we can still make it be a peaceful one for all. We can make changes we want to see when women stop their bad feelings and support in raising the voice against crimes and when the men breed stand up to their own self and make a change towards healthy environment.
